Bestselling Novelist Issues Challenge to the Music World: Create a Theme Song

(PRWEB) June 21, 2007 -- In an unprecedented display of bravado and good will, Douglas Clegg, award-winning author of the fantastical Vampyricon Trilogy, has thrown down the gauntlet to challenge bands, musicians and individual artists to write and record original music to accompany the last installment in the series, "The Queen Of Wolves" (www.CleggContest.com). The Vampyricon Music Challenge is designed to push architects of all genres of music to their creative limits and conceive the perfect song to heighten the impact of the series; with a grand prize of $3,000.00 hanging in the balance.

The challenge is set to kick off on Midsummer Night, June 21 and entrants are encouraged to think outside the box, not limiting themselves to the stereotypical Gothic overtones generally associated with Clegg's novels; rather creating a realm of dark fantasy within their own expertise while using one of the three Vampyricon titles: "The Priest Of Blood," "The Lady Of Serpents" or "The Queen Of Wolves."

"Writers and musicians have a lot in common ... the creativity, the storytelling and the passion for what we do," says Clegg, "These novels, set in the medieval period with alchemists, vampires, shape shifters and necromancers, need some tunes and I want to bring a fresh vision to their marketing. The Vampyricon is epic in scope and I think all epics need a soundtrack."

"The Queen Of Wolves" will be released in hardcover September 4 from Penguin's Ace Books' fantasy line. Song entries are being accepted from June 21 to September 1; after which an online poll hosted by GarageRadio.com will be launched to capture the popular vote through October 1 to determine the top 25 finalists.

Douglas Clegg will hand-pick one winner to receive a grand prize of $3,000.00, personally signed copies of all three Vampyricon novels, a four-week banner ad placement at Shocklines.com and possible inclusion of the winning song in the Vampyricon's video trailer. Additionally, second and third place cash prizes of $500.00 and $250.00 respectively will be awarded.

Will the Vampyricon have a rap theme? Is death metal the ticket? Could it be some cool jazz or maybe bluegrass? It's time for the music community to answer the Challenge. Full details and official rules are available at www.CleggContest.com.

About Douglas Clegg

Bram Stoker and International Horror Guild Award winning author Douglas Clegg launched the world's first publisher-sponsored e-serial novel, "Naomi," in 1999 and ran a trailblazing contest in 2001 for readers to submit videos to promote his novel "Nightmare House." Author of several bestselling novels, including "The Vampyricon," "The Hour Before Dark" and "Neverland," with "The Attraction," "The Hour Before Dark" and "The Children's Hour" optioned for movies, Clegg once again breaks new ground with his "Vampyricon Music Challenge" contest to bring attention not only to his epic vampire trilogy, but also to the music world, which mirrors the creative process with its own ability to tell a story with a song.
