The Filter Releases Significant New Version of Music Recommendation Software
Bath, UK (PRWEB) August 15, 2007 -- The New Release: The latest version of The Filter, to be released on August 15, 2007 features a much-improved user interface that allows users to create playlists and fill their iPod, iPhone and Apple TV in a far quicker fashion. The Windows version of the software includes updated and improved support for the latest Nokia smart-phones.
The new release also includes a brand new Facebook Application that promises to bring social music recommendation and discovery to the thirty million Facebook users.
The Facebook application will allow you to share your music profile and activity with friends, and recommend a song you think they should listen to. It also allows you to listen to a clip of any recommended song.
About The Filter:
The Filter is a neat, free piece of software that helps you build fantastic playlists from the music stored on your PC, Mac, iPod or Nokia mobile phone. It's like a musical assistant who knows exactly which songs will fit together and which songs won't based on your personal tastes. People are drowning under a flood of digital content choice and they need help from The Filter.
To create a playlist you open up iTunes or Windows Media Player, and let The Filter analyse your library. You then click on 'Create a Playlist' to generate one based on your choice of artist or song. The music in the playlist comes from the music in your collection - it is a great way of rediscovering music you forgot you had!
The application and the website (www.thefilter.com) also recommends new music for you to discover, again based on your tastes and listening habits -- an easy and pain-free way to discover new music to compliment your collection. The Filter also links to the major download stores like iTunes and enables you to buy the song you want.
Quotes from the team
"Our new release is a step in the right direction for The Filter as it proves our continued focus on providing the best personalised recommendations to people whenever and wherever they need them,"
said Rhett Ryder, Co-Founder at The Filter.
"The first wave of the digital revolution was about the freedom of choice, trying to make everything accessible to anyone, anyplace, anytime. I think the second wave will be about freedom from choice. It will be able to filter and focus so that you get more of what you want,"
said Peter Gabriel, Investor.
Background:
The Filter was initially launched as a beta for PC/Win XP in 2006. It's now available as a free download for Windows (iTunes and Windows Media Player), Mac (iTunes) and Nokia (Series 60) Mobile Phones.
The developers behind The Filter are world leading British software company Exabre. They're backed by high profile investors including Peter Gabriel's Real World Group and Eden Ventures.
The Filter's user base is growing at 25,000 a month and has been downloaded in 164 countries. The engine can identify 5 million songs, 4.5m of which have clips.
The Filter works by using Bayesian mathematics. It was developed by Martin Hopkins, a physicist who was struggling to manage his growing digital music collection.

Rock Stars, Music Icons, Alcohol, and Drug Overdose
There is a saying that rock and roll stars live on the edge and drive in the fast lane. Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, and Michael Hutchence of INXS did just that.
