Page Street Poetry to Rock Albuquerque with Street Style Art, Poetry, Music and Movement in Free Show at SolArts this July!

Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) July 1, 2006 -- NM Poetry Tangents, Albuquerque’s newest and fastest growing poetry coalition announces a free event to be held at the SolArts gallery this July both as a means of showing their gratitude for the support that the city gives to its poets and slammers, and as an introduction to street poetry; a gritty, realistic style of poetry that never flinches from depicting life in all its moods.

“Street poetry exists in many forms around the country’, says NMPT founder Zachary Kluckman, “and for us, this show is partly a chance to formally welcome this visceral, smoky lens into Albuquerque’s poetic vision. This city is brimming with amazing poets and performers, and we feel that the raw nature of street poetry will find a place easily”

Many people will recognize street poetry in its early form, as free-style rap. This form of independent writing displays the same ideas of sound and rhythm as other forms of poetry, but remains very spontaneous; retaining the raw, unpracticed edge of the streets it was bred in.

The event will bring many of the city’s big names in traditional poetry together with the defending national slam champions, while introducing new names in street poetry. This cross-section of local talent also includes a live DJ, dancers and a display of graffiti art which will be completed during the show. This piece will be available for the audience to participate in as well.

The organizers want to emphasize that the show is a gift to the city as well. Albuquerque currently hosts a variety of slams and readings each month, and the members of NM Poetry Tangents want to say thank you in a dynamic way. The space, generously donated by SolArts, will be host to a show that promises to be very visual and interactive. NMPT founder and Co-Chair Jessica Helen Lopez adds “This show is for the audience. We want people who come out to see all these amazing poets to be able to feel personally involved also.”

SolArts is located at 712 Central SE, two blocks west of I-25. The show begins at 7 pm and will run until just after 9 pm. For more information please contact NMPT at 281-9205, or visit http://nmpoetrytangents.com for more information.

Competing with Free Music and Movie Downloads: The Digital Rights Management Myth
The media is abuzz with reports of illegal music and movie downloading, peer-to-peer file sharing and the related legal and legislative battles being played out in courts and in Congress. Many of these discussions perpetuate a myth that existing, or soon-to-be developed, digital rights management (DRM) technologies are the key to solving the entertainment industry's piracy woes. As support for this notion, many people cite Apple's successful iTunes music download service. The conventional wisdom is that since iTunes uses DRM and iTunes is successful, then DRM must have been instrumental in that success. The truth is that Apple's DRM technology, called FairPlay, was indeed instrumental in Apple's success, but not because FairPlay prevents pi...
