August Magazine's First Music Edition On Hold

Montreal, Canada (PRWeb) December 1, 2006 -- Start-up August Magazine puts first issue on hold till the controversy over the sale is rectified. The magazine's new owners, Paris Associates, continue to work on unifying the theory of everything.

"This is the most heart-wrenching magazine launch I've ever worked on." That was the statement from veteran magazine editor and creative director at Paris Associates, Aldo Parise, as he spoke about their new venture August Magazine.

First published as August Surf, Paris Associates bought the magazine from the founding editor John Barth. Having hit on hard times Barth had been looking for buyers for several years. "The sale went very well and we promised John we would keep his staff and the wit of the editorial." Parise was quite surprised when the foundation affiliated with August Surf contacted him saying the sale was void.

Already half way through the production of their first issue, the newly-dubbed August was put on hold till the situation was rectified. "This is a perfect example of how a large organization can wreck havoc on a start-up like ours. Luckily we have writers and designers that understand," notes Parise, who has taken on the reins as editor and art director. While their first issue is on hold, the controversial, unfinished music edition is available for download at http://www.augustism.com.

The first issue of August will feature the first annual Rock Awards given to bands who have made a big impact in independent music. The first recipients include Hey Rosetta!, Velvet Teen and Sunset Rubdown. Hoping to get everything ironed out by early 2007, the first issue will be released as a rich-media PDF. "We want to keep costs as low as possible so that we can publish for years to come," says Parise. "Right now we just want to get the first one out."

Paris Associates is an editorial development company based out of Montreal, Canada. Their clients include Azure Magazine, Oddity Cinema and Imperial Tart Records. For more information on August and Paris Associates contact creative director Aldo Parise at editor @ augustism.com.

When Does Copyright Expire On My Music?
The expiration date on your copyrighted music isn't something you have to worry about, at least not in your lifetime. The music that you've written is copyrighted the moment you've put it onto paper or recorded it. The reason you don't have to worry about expiration is because the music is protected until 70 years after the death of the author. In the case of your music, that author would be you.
