Christmas is the season of giving, except as usual we have foregone giving carefully wrapped presents to our wonderful clients and instead will be making our annual donation to a cause we feel is well-deserving. This year we at Dusted have once again decided to support the creative charity, Create. We believe that using the creative arts to help transform the lives of the vulnerable and disadvantaged is a noble cause and wish to show our advocacy.
Create work with young patients; disabled children and adults; young and adult carers; schoolchildren and teachers in areas of deprivation; vulnerable elderly people; young and adult offenders (and their families); and marginalised children and adults. They create programs designed to develop a fairer, more caring and inclusive society through the engagement and nurturing of talent and potential.
Their work is an inspiration to us, especially since we are also advocates for the power of creativity and its benefits to society, especially young people. This year, Create visited children’s hospices, hospitals and respite centres in Basingstoke, London, Oxford, and Reading to bring a creative music and visual art workshop to the children at these venues. They encouraged children to create their own, personalised percussive instruments and experiment with sound palettes and rhythm. This kind of engagement is hugely important to young people in hospices, especially when you consider that – according to a survey of 19,000 children in hospital – 40% of them have no activities or opportunities to play. We look forward to seeing more great work like this from Create in the next year, and we encourage you to support them in any way you can.
To Create and all those reading, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, creative, and prosperous 2017!
