Like the real thing, Dusted’s second full season in the Official Fantasy Game of the Barclays Premier League was a crazy title race.
With focus on Manchester United quickly shifting to rivals Man City and southerners, Chelsea, no one imagined that an 11-match winning run would propel Liverpool into top spot and take over the mantle of title favourites as Arsenal’s challenge slipped away. But the dynamic duo of Suarez and Sturridge couldn’t make up for Gerrard’s heartbreaking mistake during their home game against Chelsea late in April, losing by two goals while Manchester City went on to defeat Crystal Palace.
Now dubbed the title decider, the pressure was on when Liverpool also faced Palace and staggeringly, threw away a three goal lead to only draw while City went on to win their last three games and claim the title race. Commiserations for Brendan Rodgers’s Liverpool side but congratulations to Pellegrini for claiming a second Premier League title for City (along with topping the ranking for global sports pay with an average first-team player earning more than £5.3m per year).
Echoing the twists and turns of the real thing, our own (fantasy) title race saw previous champion and title contenders from last season loose their dominance while our man Matt fought a close battle to eventually claim top spot. Special mention must go to friend of Dusted, Nic, for consistency and once again coming third in what was a much bigger field of teams this year. Here’s how the final table shaped up…
