Santa Fe Studios, a near $30-million production facility in the southeast part of the mountain town, is open for business.
Built in line with the city’s traditional pueblo architectural style, the 65-acre studio includes two 19,275-square-foot soundstages with three floors of production office space for each studio and a 57-acre open back lot where construction of anything a major film production needs can be done.
Home to many famous Western and action feature films, the location and landscape of New Mexico has made the development of the film industry an important part of New Mexico’s economy as well as a destination living location for top-tier Hollywood talent. Long-time producing and directing brothers Lance and Conrad Hool, along with Lance’s son Jason – tout the smaller-city facility as the boutique alternative for filmmakers looking to shoot in the state.
Project director, Jason Hool, described the incentives that led to the growth of the industry: “Ten years ago, movie productions in New Mexico were kicked into high gear when then Governor Gary Johnson passed a 25% rebate for the film industry. [This saw] over 150 film projects came to the state. Major movies like No Country for Old Men, True Grit, and Indiana Jones have been filmed here. The landscape, the work force and these incentives have made the film industry and New Mexico a winning combination.”
Globally, New Mexico is the best place to make movies outside of LA and NY. The film industry has been a huge success story for Santa Fe, and New Mexico in general.
The Hool family appointed Dusted to devise the identity and key brand touch points for the studio and earlier this week, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place with more than 20 top Hollywood studio executives from Disney, Sony, Warner Brothers and others attending.
The work Dusted implemented included a multifaceted visual identity, flexible enough to be applied to everything from wayfinding, signage and stationery. The website was obviously a key part of the communication’s plan showcasing the studio and an incredibly rich visual language.
